Create a stunning Apple TV app with just a few additional assets

Updated over a week ago

A native SupaPass app for Apple TV

An Apple TV app offers significant advantages, including expanded audience reach, enhanced visibility, improved user experience, brand consistency, monetization opportunities, increased engagement, and a competitive edge. Adding Apple TV allows your users to experience the best of your app without adding clumsy cables or reducing resolution with casting.

Prepare Image Assets

To create a visually appealing and engaging Apple TV app, you'll need to prepare the necessary image assets. These include:

tvOS App Icon

The tvOS app icon consists of two parts:

  1. Base/Background Layer: This layer should be 1280 x 768 pixels and saved in PNG format without transparency.

  2. Foreground Layer: Sized at 1280 x 768 pixels or smaller, also saved in PNG format without transparency.

Top Tip

Avoid busy graphics with lots of images and choose simple colors that help your logo stand out against the background.

Ensure that both layers are designed to represent your app effectively and adhere to Apple's guidelines for app icons.

tvOS Top Shelf Image

The top shelf image is displayed when users place your app in the top row of their Apple TV home screen, offering increased visibility. It requires two sizes:

  1. Regular: Sized at 1920 x 720 pixels, saved in PNG format without transparency.

  2. Wide: Sized at 4640 x 1440 pixels, saved in PNG format without transparency.

Design compelling top shelf images to capture users' attention and encourage engagement with your app.

Adding Image Assets

Once you have prepared the necessary image assets, it's time to add them to the App Graphics screen. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to App Graphics Page: Log in to your SupaPass dashboard and access the App Graphics screen from the App Setup page.

  2. Upload Image Assets: Upload the tvOS app icon and top shelf images to the designated sections on the graphics page.

  3. Save Changes: After uploading the images, remember to save your changes to ensure they are applied to your app!

Build Your Apple TV App

With the image assets in place, you're ready to build your Apple TV app. Follow these final steps to submit your app for review:

  1. Access App Setup Screen: Navigate to the App Setup screen.

  2. Trigger the Build: Click the Build app button and select the type of build you want to create. If you'd like to preview on your own Apple TV you can select the TestFlight only option, but if you don't you should select 'Yes, submit this build to the App Store.'

  3. Add release notes: Add the changes to the 'What's New?' section. If you need inspiration, check out the most recent App Release Notes.

  4. Submit: Click 'Build & Submit for Review' to submit your app.

Congratulations! You've successfully set up your Apple TV app! The app will now be sent for review just like your iOS app. Reviews take 24-48 hours in most circumstances, with subsequent submissions usually quicker than the first.
