Overview

This guide teaches you the basics of building and organizing hosted content inside your SupaPass site or app.
You’ll learn how Content, Lists, and Sections work together - and how to create them step by step.

If you're just getting started, this is the best place to begin.

Before You Start

To make setup smooth, prepare these items first:

1. Create Your Products

Products define which users get access to your content. Setting these up first makes assigning access during content creation much easier.

2. Upload Your Media Files

Upload your videos, audio files, documents, and cover images to the Media Library before you start building. This saves time when creating multiple content items.

Understanding the Structure

SupaPass will automatically show your content in a professional layout, similar to the style of Netflix/Spotify using our content layout screen.

Your content is organized in three simple layers:

Level

What It Is

Important Rules

Content

A single item such as a video, audio file, or article.

The core media your audience will view or listen to.

List

A collection of Content items.

Must contain only one type of content (all video, all audio, or all articles).

Section

A group of Lists.

Can contain Lists from different content types, but each List keeps its single type.

Key Behavior You Need to Know

The following applies to content that is hosted within SupaPass. For RSS imported content, check out the applicable help guides

1. Lists Can Only Contain ONE Content Type

This is important:

  • A List can be video-only, audio-only, or article-only.

  • You cannot mix videos + audio + articles in the same List.

2. Sections Show Across All Content-Type Tabs, Only If They Have Lists

Sections appear in the layout screen for:

  • Video

  • Audio

  • Articles

However:

  • If a Section has no Lists for a specific content type, it won’t be shown to users under that type.

  • This is normal and expected.

3. Content Items Can Appear in Multiple Lists

You do not need to reupload content. Just assign the same item to more than one List.

4. You Can Reorder Sections and Lists

Use drag-and-drop to reorder:

  • Sections

  • Lists within a Section
This affects the order your users see on your site or app.

TL;DR

Section = Collection of Lists (topics in sections down the page)

Lists = List of Content (like playlists/collections/albums that collect a series of content in a list)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Now that we've laid down some ground rules, here's a step-by-step guide on how to add your content to the content layout.

Step 1: Create a Section

  1. Go to Content → Content Layout

  2. Select the tab for the content type you want to work with (Video, Audio, or Articles)

  3. Click Create Section

  4. Add a Section name and click Save

  5. Drag to reorder Sections if needed

What You Can Do

  • Create as many Sections as you need

  • Group Lists in any way you want (themes, modules, seasons, etc.)

  • Reorder Sections freely

What You Can't Do

  • You cannot delete all Sections (at least one is always required)

  • Sections cannot contain content directly — only Lists can hold content

Step 2: Add Lists to a Section

Inside each Section, you can add Lists.

  1. Inside a Section, click Add list to Section

  2. Select Create new list

  3. Add a title, optional cover image, and settings

  4. Click Save

  5. Drag Lists to reorder them within the Section

Reminder Lists can only contain one content type; video, audio, or articles.

Some Lists you’ve created earlier can be reused inside multiple Sections. this can also be managed on Content level.

What You Can Do

  • Add multiple Lists to a single Section

  • Reuse existing Lists across different Sections

  • Reorder Lists anytime

What You Can't Do

  • You cannot mix content types within a List

  • You cannot place a List inside another List

Step 3: Add Content to Your Lists

There are three ways to add content:

Option A: From the Content layout screen

  1. Go to Content Layout → (Video/Audio/Articles)

  2. Click Create New

  3. Upload your media and complete the details

  4. Assign it to one or more Lists

Option B: From Inside a List

  1. Open the List

  2. Click Create Content (blue button)

  3. Upload or select your file and complete the details

  4. Save

Option C: Directly from your home dashboard

  1. Under the quick links select the option to add audio, video or articles

  2. This will open the content form

  3. Upload or select your file and complete the details

  4. Save

If you just want to add one piece of content to an existing Section and list, you can check out this guide here.

Assign Content to Multiple Lists

  1. Edit the content item

  2. Under the List section, click the + icon

  3. Select another List to add it to

  4. Save your changes

This helps you reuse content without duplication.

What You Can Do

  • Add content to mulitple Lists

  • Reuse content strategically across your structure

What You Can't Do

  • Assign content to a List of a different type. For example, a video cannot be added to an audio List

Visibility Rules for Sections, Lists and Content

Sections

  • Show on the website/app only if they contain at least one List

  • If a Section has Lists for Video but none for Audio, it will show only under Video

Lists

  • The same list can be added to one or more sections.

Content

  • Follows the access rules of your Products

  • Appears in every List you assign it to

Best Practices

  • Use clear, descriptive names (e.g., “Module 1: Foundations”)

  • Keep Lists focused — one content type per List

  • Make sure each Section contains at least one populated List

  • Plan your structure before uploading large batches of content

Summary Checklist

  • Create your Sections

  • Add Lists inside Sections

  • Add Content to Lists

  • Reuse content across multiple Lists if needed

  • Reorder everything so it displays how you want
