How to Add a YouTube Video to Your SupaPass Content Library

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to import a YouTube video into your SupaPass dashboard using just the video ID.

Updated this week

Use your Youtube content in your SupaPass website and App

Got great content on YouTube? 🎥 Instead of uploading it all over again, you can easily pull in your existing YouTube videos just by using their video ID. It's a super quick way to reuse content you’ve already created - whether it’s tutorials, interviews, or anything in between. Even better: you can lock certain videos behind a paywall on your SupaPass site, so only your paying subscribers get access. The videos don’t need to be public, as long as you’ve got the video ID and the viewer has access through your platform, you’re good to go.

This approach keeps your content streamlined while still delivering a high-quality, branded experience directly to your audience through your web and mobile apps.

🧭 Step-by-step instructions

1. Open the Content Layout

  • Log into your SupaPass dashboard.

  • In the sidebar, click Content Layout.

  • Go to the Video tab.

  • Click Create a New Video

2. Choose “YouTube Video ID” as Your Source

  • You'll see three options for adding video:

    1. Upload a video file from your library or folders

    2. Enter a YouTube video ID

    3. Add a live stream URL

  • Choose Enter a YouTube video ID.

💡 Callout: Make sure the video you want to use is public or unlisted. Private videos may not work properly.

4. Get the YouTube Video ID

  • Go to the YouTube video you'd like to add.

  • Copy the ID — it’s the part of the URL after the "=" in a standard YouTube link.

    Example:
    For this URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbCdEf12345
    The ID is: AbCdEf12345

5. Paste the ID into SupaPass

  • Paste the YouTube video ID into the Enter YouTube Video ID field.

  • SupaPass will automatically fetch the thumbnail from YouTube, so there's no need to add a cover image.

6. Add Metadata

  • Title: You can manually enter a title or use AI assistance to generate one.

  • Description: Add a description or generate with AI.

  • Preview Description: This is visible to users even if the content is behind a paywall.

7. Assign to a List and Product

  • Choose whether to:

    • Add the video to an existing content list

    • Create a new list automatically

  • Then, assign the content to one or multiple Products.

👋New here and haven't yet created any products? We recommend that you first create your products, before adding your content

8. Configure other settings (Optional)

  • Set a scheduled publish date

  • Add a notification message

  • Choose whether to include:

    • Downloadable content

    • add an e-reader/PDF file

    • SEO settings

9. Save and Wait for Sync

  • Click Save.

  • It might take a few minutes to appear on your website/app.

You’re All Set — Let the Video Shine! ✨

Once you hit Save, your YouTube video is officially part of your SupaPass content library. It might take a minute or two to show up on your site or app, so don’t worry if it’s not instant. When it does appear, you’ll see the same thumbnail you set on YouTube, and the video will play beautifully — with all the usual YouTube features like playback speed and subtitles (if setup). Whether your audience is watching on the web or in your app, they’ll get a smooth, native viewing experience. Nice work! 🎉

🤔 FAQ

Q: What if my video isn’t showing right away?

A: Give it a few minutes. Sometimes there’s a small delay before it syncs to your site.

Q: What happens if I paste the full YouTube link instead of just the ID?

A: It won’t work — be sure to only paste the ID (the part after the = in the URL).

Q: Can I use private YouTube videos?

A: No, the video must be public or unlisted.

Q: Can I import YouTube Shorts?

A: While it’s technically possible to import Shorts using their video ID, we don’t recommend it. Shorts are designed for vertical viewing and super quick interactions, which doesn’t always translate well to the SupaPass experience. Right now, we officially support traditional YouTube video formats (standard horizontal layout), which look and function best across your web and mobile apps.
