Discussing your content with Community

Let members continue the conversation around your videos audio and articles.

Keep the conversation close to the moment that inspired it. Discussions on Content give your audience a place to ask a question, share a takeaway, or hear another perspective while exploring a video, audio item, or article.

A lesson can prompt a learner’s first question. An interview can spark a debate. A story can bring out experiences your audience wants to share. Give people somewhere to respond while the content is fresh in their minds.

What is included

Discussions on Content is part of Live Chat & Community Spaces. Community also includes reactions, @mentions, and moderation. Your users can create profiles and avatars. Community notifications are provided through the Member Engagement Powerup or when you get the Community Engine.

Turn on Chat on Content

When you add the Chat & Community Spaces Powerup or Community Engine, Community chat will automatically be enabled for paid content. If you want to also add it for your free content, you adjust this in settings:

  1. Open Design → Settings in your admin dashboard.

  2. In General Settings, find Chat on Content.

  3. You'll see that Turn on Chat for Paid Content is toggled on.

  4. Use Turn on Chat for Free Content (only available when logged in) for free content. Members must be logged in to use this chat.

Invite a useful first response

Give members a specific question to answer.

For example, “Which idea will you try this week?” is easier to respond to than “Any comments?” You can put that invitation in your content introduction or use it to open a conversation.

Respond to contributions and encourage members to talk with one another. Acknowledge different perspectives and make your community expectations clear.

Check who can join your content discussions

Your audience must be signed in to join a discussion. Their access also depends on the content’s Product access and your Chat on Content settings.

If a member tells you they cannot join, check:

  1. Whether they are signed in to the correct account.

  2. Whether their account has access to the Product linked to the content.

  3. Whether the relevant paid or free content chat setting is enabled in Design → Settings → Chat on Content.

If their access and your settings are correct, start a chat with SupaPass and include the content link, the message shown, and whether they are using your website, iOS app, or Android app.

Show your audience where the conversation happens

When you add a content List to a Community Group, members can open a content item’s discussion from the speech-bubble control on its card. The content and conversation appear alongside each other on desktop, so members can refer to the item while contributing.

When you share a release, include an invitation to join its discussion. A focused question gives your audience a clear next step after watching, listening, or reading.

Help members if live updates pause

If members report that live updates are temporarily unavailable, check your Community Credit balance in Usage and Plans. If you need more capacity, review the available monthly packages or Flex Credit top-ups.

The chat also offers Refresh chat and Retry live updates controls. If you have available credits and the issue continues, contact SupaPass with the content link and message shown. The warning alone does not identify the cause.

How this relates to older comments

If you were already using the older comments feature, you keep that functionality. Keeping legacy comments does not, by itself, unlock the wider Community features.

If you are using legacy comments, follow the separate legacy guide for your current controls. Contact us by chat💬 before changing your setup if you want to add Community and need to understand what happens to your existing discussions.
