Why do I need a Google Play Developer Account?
To publish an Android app on the Google Play Store, you’ll need a Google Play Developer account. This gives you full ownership and control of your app and allows you to manage updates, payments, and analytics. It’s a requirement for all SupaPass apps on Android.
Important: Individual vs. Organization Accounts
Google requirements for individual developer accounts:
You must have 20 unique people test your app before you’re allowed to publish it. Testers must be invited using their Google email address, which makes the process complicated for small businesses and solo creators. Read more here
Organizational developer accounts are currently exempt from this rule.
We highly recommend that businesses, brands, and groups register as an Organizational developer account, not as an individual. This makes the publishing process much easier and is strongly advised for all SupaPass creators.
How much does it cost?
There is a one-off $25 USD registration fee to join the Google Play Developer Program.
How do I register?
1. Set up a Google Account
If you don’t already have a Google Account, create one here.
If you already have a Google Account, you can skip this step.
2. Register for a Google Play Developer Account
Go to the Google Play Console sign-up page and sign in with your Google Account.
Tip 💡The Google Account used to register will be the owner of your Developer account. If you’re an organization, we recommend the main SupaPass account holder completes this step. You can invite team members later.
Choose “Organization” for your account type if you’re a business or brand.
This is very important to avoid the individual account testing requirements and makes managing your apps as a team much easier. Google will ask for your DUNS number when registering as an organization.
3. Accept the Developer Agreement
Carefully read and accept Google’s Developer Distribution Agreement and Terms of Service.
4. Review distribution countries
Make sure your country is supported for distributing apps on Google Play.
5. Pay the registration fee
Pay the one-off $25 registration fee with a valid payment method.
6. Set up a Payment Profile
To sell products or in-app purchases, you must create and link a Payment Profile to your Google Play Developer account. Follow the instructions during setup, or read more here.
What happens next?
Once your account is set up, connect your Google Developer account to SupaPass.
Begin the Google Developer account verification process right away—it can take up to 2 weeks for Google to verify your account.
When verification is complete and your payment profile is set up, you’ll be ready to publish your app on Google Play!
