Adding a live audio stream to your SupaPass website and app

Stream live radio or audio to your audience using the live stream URL from your provider.

Bring your live audio into your SupaPass website and app. Live audio streaming lets your audience listen in real time on any device, so it works well for 24/7 radio stations, live events, DJ sets and special broadcasts.

Your stream is hosted by your streaming provider. SupaPass plays it using the live stream URL your provider gives you.

Why use live audio streaming?

Bring your broadcasts into the same place as your other content, so your audience can tune in through your own website and app. You could use it to:

  • Give listeners one place to return to. Keep your live station alongside your recordings, articles and other content under your brand.

  • Build a regular listening habit. Give your audience a reason to tune in for a weekly show, a live DJ set or a special broadcast.

  • Add live audio to your membership. Make a stream free to listen to or include it in a paid Product for your subscribers.

  • Keep using your streaming provider. Connect a compatible live stream URL from your existing radio host while SupaPass provides the listening experience.

Which Engine or PowerUp do you need?

Live audio streaming is included in Starter, so you don’t need a separate Live Audio Streaming PowerUp or the Media Hosting Engine just to add an externally hosted live audio stream.

  • For your live website: you need the Website Hosting Engine or a plan that includes website hosting.

  • For your branded iOS and Android apps: you need app hosting through the Mobile App Engine or a plan that already includes your apps.

Check Usage and Plans in your dashboard before buying anything, especially if you have a legacy plan. Your streaming provider hosts the broadcast separately.

What stream URL you need

  • SupaPass plays HLS (.m3u8) streams and direct MP3 or AAC streams. This is the “listen link” or “stream URL” most radio hosts give you, for example Radio.co, Icecast and Shoutcast servers.

  • The URL must start with https://. Streams on http:// won’t play.

  • The stream must be publicly accessible, with no login needed to play it.

  • Use the stream URL itself, not the provider’s player page, embed code or a playlist file (.m3u or .pls). If your provider only gives you a .m3u file, open it in a text editor and copy the https:// address inside it.

  • Streams vary between providers. Most play fine on web, iOS and Android, but test yours on each before you share it.

What your provider needs to do

Your streaming provider hosts the stream; SupaPass plays it. You’ll usually find the stream URL in your provider’s dashboard under Listen Links, Stream URL or similar. SupaPass can’t host or convert the stream for you.

How to add your live stream

  1. Log in to your SupaPass dashboard.

  2. Create new audio content and choose the option to add a live stream.

  3. Paste your stream URL into the stream URL field.

  4. Add a title, a description and a cover image so listeners can recognize your station.

  5. Add it to a List and assign a Product. Choose a free product to make the stream free to listen to, or a paid product to make it available to your paying subscribers.

  6. Click Save. It can take a few minutes to appear on your website and app.

Good To Know 💡 For a station that runs 24/7, leave the unpublish date empty, or set it far in the future if one is required, so the stream stays available.

Tips and troubleshooting

  • Test before you share it. Play your stream on your website and in your app on a few different devices.

  • The stream keeps loading or won’t play. Check that the URL is correct, starts with https:// and plays without a login.

  • It doesn’t play in the Arc browser. This is a known issue caused by Arc’s security settings. The stream plays in other browsers.

  • It still won’t play. Check with your provider that the stream is live and that you’re using the direct stream URL. If it plays on some devices but not others, send us the URL.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Engine or PowerUp do I need?

Live audio streaming is included in Starter, so you don’t need a separate Live Audio Streaming PowerUp or the Media Hosting Engine just to add an externally hosted live audio stream.

  • For your live website: you need the Website Hosting Engine or a plan that includes website hosting.

  • For your branded iOS and Android apps: you need app hosting through the Mobile App Engine or a plan that already includes your apps.

Check Usage and Plans in your dashboard before buying anything, especially if you have a legacy plan. Your streaming provider hosts the broadcast separately.

Does my audio stream have to be HLS (.m3u8)?

No. SupaPass plays HLS (.m3u8) streams and direct MP3 or AAC streams. The URL must start with https:// and play without a provider login. You don’t need to change providers just because they don’t offer HLS; ask for their direct HTTPS audio stream URL.

Does SupaPass host the live broadcast for me?

Your streaming provider hosts the broadcast; SupaPass plays it through the URL you add. You still need a streaming provider. SupaPass can’t host or convert the live stream for you.

Can I use my provider’s player page, embed code or playlist link?

Use the direct stream URL rather than a player page or embed code. A .m3u or .pls playlist file is not the stream itself. If your provider gives you a .m3u file, open it in a text editor and copy the https:// stream address inside, or ask your provider for the direct URL. An HLS .m3u8 stream URL is supported.

Will my stream work on every website browser, iPhone and Android device?

Streams vary between providers, and compatibility with every URL across web, iOS and Android is not guaranteed. Test your stream on your website and in your iOS and Android apps before sharing it with your audience. If it works on some devices but not others, send SupaPass the stream URL and tell us which devices or browsers you tested.

Can I make my live stream free or include it in a paid membership?

Yes. Add the audio content to a List and assign a Product. Choose a free Product for free listening or a paid Product to make the stream available to subscribers who have access to it.

Can I use this for a radio station that broadcasts 24/7?

Yes. Use your station’s live stream URL and leave the unpublish date empty, or set it far in the future if a date is required. Your streaming provider needs to keep the stream live. Test playback before sharing it.
