Give selected users access with Direct User Access

Give individuals or groups access to selected products, set access dates, and help existing and new users sign in.

Sometimes you want to give someone access to your content without asking them to purchase a product or redeem an access code.

  • You might be welcoming a private group

  • giving a collaborator access to review a course

  • or sharing content with selected members of your audience

Direct User Access lets you arrange that access yourself. Choose the products, enter the users’ email addresses, and set when their access begins and ends. They can then sign in to access the content you’ve selected.

Why use Direct User Access?

This feature was created to give invited users a straightforward way to access your content. You arrange their access in advance, so existing users can simply log in, while new users just need to set their password. For a group, you can set everyone’s access up together and choose dates that match your course or program.

You can:

  • Welcome a group together: give up to 25 people access in one submission.

  • Share several products at once: choose all the products your group needs.

  • Plan access around your program: set start and end dates for a course, event, or private group.

  • Include people who haven’t registered yet: SupaPass creates an account if their email address does not already have one.

When should I use it?

Direct User Access is useful when you want to decide who receives access and for how long. For example:

Situation

How you could use it

A private course cohort

Give all participants access to the course for the duration of the program.

A reviewer or collaborator

Share selected products for a limited review period.

Complimentary membership

Give a guest access to your membership content with an end date.

An invitation-only group

Assign access to a Secret Space using the invited members’ email addresses.

Before you start

Have your product choices, users’ email addresses, and access dates ready.

Everyone in the same submission receives all selected products and the same start and end dates. If people need different arrangements, create their access separately.

Check your choices carefully before submitting. Access granted through this feature cannot be manually cancelled or ended. If you want access to be temporary, set an end date when you create it. Leaving that date blank gives access with no expiry.

How to grant access

  1. In your SupaPass dashboard, open Commerce → Direct User Access.

  2. Choose your products. Click each product you want to give access to.

  3. Add the users’ email addresses. Enter up to 25 addresses, separated by comma's

  4. Set the start date. Users will not have access before this date.

  5. Set an end date if needed. Users will no longer have access after this date. Leave it blank for ongoing access. This ongoing (or eternal) access cannot be manually revoked. Use it carefully.

  6. Review everything. Check the email addresses, products, and dates.

  7. Click Create Subscription.

For example, if ten participants are joining a three-month course, you can add their email addresses together, select the course product, and apply the same access dates to the whole group.

Good To Know 💡Giving eternal access (so not adding an end date) cannot be manually revoked. Please use this option carefully.

Help your users get started

Users will not receive an email notification that they've been granted access. You have to let users know where to sign in and when their access begins.

If they already have an account with the email address you entered, they can simply log in with their existing details. Their access will be available from the start date you selected.

If they haven’t registered with that email address, SupaPass creates an account for them when you grant access. They need to receive a password reset email and follow the link to set their password before they can log in.

Make sure you guide new users through the password reset process so they can start enjoying their content.

What can’t I do with this feature?

Direct User Access does not let you:

  • Manually cancel or end the access you’ve granted.

  • Update an existing subscription.

  • Give different products or dates to individual users within the same submission.

  • Add more than 25 email addresses in one submission.

  • When access ends, it doesn't automatically become a paid subscription. For this situation, use a Stripe coupon code

Frequently asked questions

Does the user need to register first?

No. SupaPass creates an account if one does not already exist for the email address you enter. The user needs to receive a password reset email and follow the link to set a password before logging in. Users with an existing account can simply log in with their existing details.

Can I give access to more than 25 people?

Yes, by creating separate submissions of up to 25 email addresses each.

What happens if I leave the end date blank?

Access has no expiry. Only leave it blank when you intend to give ongoing access. This access cannot be manually revoked. Use this option carefully.

Can I change someone’s existing subscription?

This feature does not update existing subscriptions. It should not be used to change an existing subscription’s dates or access.

What if I enter the wrong email address?

Access is assigned using the address you provide. A typo could give access to the wrong address, and an incorrectly formatted address may be skipped. Check every address before submitting, as you cannot manually cancel a grant afterwards.
