Push notifications are a powerful way to engage your members and bring them back to your app again and again.
There are two types of push notifications you can send:
Custom Push Notifications â send a message anytime, with any content you like.
Automated Content Notifications â automatically send notifications when content is published (these can use a custom or automated message, and can also be sent by email and to socials).
Note
Before sending push notifications you need to ensure you've hooked up your Firebase account
How preview notifications work
Before you can send a push notification to your users, SupaPass uses a preview notification so you can check how it looks on a real device.
Preview notifications are sent only to your own device (not to your audience).
To receive preview notifications successfully, make sure youâve done the following first:
Log into your app on an iOS device using your SupaPass CMS/admin credentials.
When prompted, allow push notifications on that device (or enable them in the appâs notification settings).
In your notification preferences, turn on âReceive push notifications for general updatesâ (this is required for preview notifications).
Good to Know đ Do not have your app open when testing the push notifications. Push notifications wonât be received if the app is open on your phone. Exit the app or lock your device.
Send custom push notifications
To send your first custom push notification:
In your Dashboard go to Push Notifications in the Community > Marketing section.
Enter a title for your notification (50 characters or fewer).
Enter a message (3â280 characters).
Select an audience for your notification (for example, specific user types).
Click Preview.
A preview should arrive on your device.
After 20 seconds, click Send to deliver the notification to your selected audience.
Didnât receive the preview notification?
Try these fixes in order:
Close the app / lock your device
Push notifications wonât be received if the app is open on your phone. Exit the app or lock your device and try preview again.Check your notification settings in the app
Confirm push notifications are enabled and âReceive push notifications for general updatesâ is turned on for your admin account. If youâve switched accounts on the same device, refresh the token
Log out, delete the app, reinstall it, and log in again.
If youâre still having issues, reach out the team via the chatđŹ in the bottom right corner of your screen.
Tips for better push notifications
Push notifications work best for new content, special releases, and timely announcements. Donât go overboard - too many notifications can overwhelm your audience and lead them to silence notifications from your app.
Notification previews may cut text short, depending on the device. Use the first words of your message to hook attention.
Once the app is opened, the push notification may disappear from the device.
The push notification include a deep link that directs the user automatically to the new content.
Keep in Mind
Before sending any push notifications to your audience, we recommend reading the Apple Review Guidelines and Google Store developer content policy.
